Robert Hernandez is a world-renowned tattoo artist based in Madrid, Spain, celebrated for his hyper-realistic and dark black-and-grey tattoo style. Born on July 19, 1969, in Prudnik, Poland, to a family of Spanish descent, Hernandez's passion for art ignited in early childhood, influenced by his great-grandfather’s caricatures and constant access to pencils. By age four, he was sketching, with one of his earliest works being a caricature of Charles De Gaulle. His artistic direction shifted at ten after discovering the band Kiss, inspiring him to create sketches and comics.
Hernandez honed his craft at art school from 1985 to 1988 before moving to Madrid, where he began his tattooing career in 1992 at Mao y Cathy, the city’s first tattoo studio. In 2000, he founded Vitamin Tattoo in Madrid’s Ópera district, a prestigious studio attracting global clients. With over 30 years of experience, his work is known for its intricate detail, emotional depth, and realism, often incorporating distorted portraits and influences from medieval art, surrealism, impressionism, and music. Hernandez’s innovative approach, playing with tones and textures, has earned him international acclaim, a strong Instagram following of over 130,000, and recognition as a pioneer in black-and-grey tattooing. He frequently travels for conventions and guest spots worldwide, sharing his expertise and unique vision.
